Dorcas Aid

Dorcas Aid Society

The Dorcas Aid is the official name for our local Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at St. Paul’s. The mission of the Dorcas Aid to strengthen all women of our congregation in the faith and to a life of service locally and internationally. The Dorcas Aid has been in existence at St. Paul’s for 93 years.

The Dorcas Aid is very active in our congregation; they spend time weekly sewing various items. They make quilts that are sent to the Lutherans World Relief, these quilts are used in disaster relief and other areas around the world in need of assistance due to environment situations and famine. Other items sewn are sold at a yearly Christmas Fair that is held in November, all proceeds of the event go to Lutheran Missionaries that serve the LCMS. The ladies of our church are also active hosting an annual Strawberry festival and hoisting a number of Coffee Hours each year, especially the Coffee Hour for Confirmation Sunday.

LWML – Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

Founded in May 1923 with eleven members in attendance at their first meeting, The Dorcas Aid Society is a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. The name Dorcas, means “doer of good things”.

The story of Dorcas can be found in the Bible in the Book of Acts, Chapter 9.

The Mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to people of the world.

These dedicated women meet every Thursday to sew quilts and, with the help of the congregation, create layettes for Lutheran World Relief, collect canceled stamps for the Deaf Interpreters Fund, and collect mite boxes to support Lutheran Missions.

The Dorcas Aid instituted the Ash Wednesday Soup and Sandwich Supper, the Strawberry Festival, and the November Craft Fair.
